Despite their similar shape—all Habanero varieties are lantern-shaped and one to two inches long—the Caribbean Red is spicier than the Orange. The Caribbean Red Habanero is extremely hot, and its flavor is described as fruity with a slightly smoky note. Many spicy Salsa sauces and hot sauces list the Caribbean Red Habanero as an ingredient due to its delicious flavor and heat. The pepper matures from green to a rich red, with its heat increasing as it ripens. The Habanero was listed in the Guinness World Records as the world's hottest chili pepper in 1999, but has since been surpassed by many other chilies.
